Director of Development
Bob Vernon has over 25 years of experience in health care, focused on health system and health plan strategy, physician relations, hospital/physician ventures, and new business development. At Southwind Bob leads business development and marketing and communications activities, as well as providing Southwind clients with advisory assistance related to physician alignment, clinical integration, consumer-directed care and managed care.

Bob's accomplishments at Southwind include:
  • Helping a physician-led Board of Directors implement a strategy for clinical integration among physicians at a multi-hospital system;
  • Participating in the creation of a new physician employment enterprise at a faith based health system in the northeast; and
  • Conducting educational presentations on hospital-physician alignment and health system sponsored physician employment for health systems and law firms across the U.S.

During his career, Bob has served as an advisor to numerous health systems and health plans on issues related to physician ventures, managed care, and consumer-directed healthcare. Immediately prior to joining Southwind, Bob led product implementation and customer relations for a consumer-directed healthcare software company.

Previously, he provided product development, marketing expertise, and health plan management services for a division of Aon, a worldwide insurance services firm. In his role as a consultant with Voluntary Hospitals of America, Healthcare Venture Associates and Trigon Health Ventures, Bob established several successful managed care organizations and provided turn-around and interim management services to many others. Related to consumer directed health care, Bob has consulted with and presented to health systems, physicians, insurance brokers, technology companies, attorneys, and financial institutions. He has also published several articles on the topic.

Bob holds a BA in English from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and an MS from Boston University.
