John A. Deane
Chief Executive Officer
John Deane is the founder and CEO of Southwind and has been working in the field of physician practice management in a wide variety of settings for 24 years. In addition to serving as the Company's Chief Executive Officer, John provides high level consulting services to selected clients.
John has led turnaround engagements for a number of large, institutionally sponsored medical groups, facilitating annual savings from $2 to $20 million. In addition, he has consulted major health systems regarding physician alignment, leading engagements focused on strategic planning, physician compensation model design, physician practice acquisition, turnaround restructuring and alternative models of physician alignment.
John is frequently called upon to speak with health system senior management teams about the lessons learned from Southwind's turnaround engagements focused on the employed physician enterprise as well as alternative models of physician alignment. He has led educational programs at the AHA, AAMC, VHA and its regional affiliates, the MGMA, state chapters of the HFMA, and the Leaders Board for Group Practice Executives.
Under John's leadership, in 2007 Southwind developed "The Southwind Institute for Senior Health System Executives," an annual two-day conference in Nashville exploring ways to optimize health system sponsored physician employment.
Prior to founding Southwind, John served as an officer of a national physician practice management company, Executive Director of a faculty practice plan at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and Executive Director of a physician/hospital joint venture managed care enterprise at Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis. John began his career as a consultant with VHA Enterprises Consulting Services in Irving, Texas working on provider sponsored HMOs, PPOs and Physician Hospital Organizations.
John holds a BA in political science and MPA in public administration with distinction from The American University in Washington, D.C.
