About Southwind

Company History

Southwind Health Partners began in October 1998 when John Deane, Southwind’s founder and CEO decided to apply the lessons learned in physician practice management to health system sponsored physician enterprises.  His vision was to create a physician practice management firm that achieved measurable improvements in financial and operating results and in the quality of the physician/hospital relationship. From the beginning, the Southwind approach has been a hands-on, side by side partnership with clients, where recognizing and acting on the tough issues and challenges leads to long term improvements. In its initial eleven plus years, Southwind became recognized nationally as the leading physician practice operational development and improvement resource for hospital-sponsored physician enterprises.

In December of 2009, Southwind was acquired by The Advisory Board Company. The acquisition expanded the Advisory Board Company’s ability to offer its clients a comprehensive set of physician alignment capabilities including physician employment, medical staff planning, clinical integration, and information technology deployment.

Now with a stable of more than forty physician practice management professionals and physician alignment consultants, Southwind provides its clients powerful teams of seasoned executives. The Southwind teams exhibit the resolve, knowledge, and experience to optimize the financial and operating performance of physician practices and to implement effective physician alignment strategies.
